About Art Therapy
Art Therapy uses the expressive and self-reflective aspects of the creative process to address a wide range of issues.  It is used in therapeutic treatment, prevention and rehabilitation.  It is valuable when working with children, adolescents, as well as adults.  The visual arts have an advantage in that they by-pass language and permit direct expression of dreams, fantasies, fears, and other inner experiences. Art Therapy has a firm basis in psycho-dynamic theory and developmental psychology. It uses art and the creative process to therapeutically explore and reconcile emotional conflicts, foster self-awareness, develop social skills, solved problems, reduce anxiety, and increase self-esteem.  Individuals grow and develop a strong sense of themselves in an atmosphere of unconditional acceptance and positive regard.  Developing creativity and fostering creative ability builds a sense of self as a creator and an attitude to life as a creative challenge.

All groups are held at the Kutenai Art Therapy Institute. Please contact the Institute for information or to register.  250-352-2264 or kutenai_art_therapy@shaw.ca
