KATI 7: Art Therapy Training Group

78 Hours, 4 Credits
(for each year, 1st  & 2nd) 
 

Description:

This experiential art therapy studio course offers an opportunity for the student to personally experience the art therapy process through exploration of art materials and art therapy techniques applicable to work with individuals and groups. The facilitator will process artwork with each participant within the group. There will be opportunity through group discussion to review the art therapy process from different theoretical and therapeutic perspectives.

Format:

Experiential art therapy group offered in both intensive units and as a weekly group. An intensive group focusing on dream work is offered every year. Personal case studies will be presented in the last week of the May intensives each year.

 

Learning Objectives:

·         To experience the art therapy process by exploring both spontaneous art and specific art directives.

·         To observe and integrate the application of art therapy theory as it is reflected in practice.

·         To identify and examine significant issues and experiences in your life.

·         To explore the creative process for personal growth and insight.

·         To develop skills in interpretation through creating art and journal writing.

·         To experience doing dream work from a number of orientations.

·         To develop skills in dream interpretation.

·         To learn a variety of approaches to doing an art review.

Requirements

1. To participate fully in the art therapy group. 

2. To keep a journal on your own art, feelings, perceptions and symbolic interpretations. Students are required to document and take slides of all their artwork.

3. To present a personal case study at the completion of the program.

 

Assignments and Evaluation: 

This course is graded by a credit for hours and a pass upon completion (156 hours are required over the two year period). All students are required to present their personal case study at the end of their program of study to all the students in the program.
